Everyone loves babies. As
we race down the interstate highways, giant billboards with pictures
of smiling Gerber babies reach out to us asking for foster homes.
When we page through newspapers and magazines our hearts are touched
by pictures of toddler waifs with big solemn eyes saying, "I
need a home," and many think, "I can do that. I can extend
love and care to a little one."
The reality, though, is that most
of the children awaiting foster homes are adolescents,
often with a history of special needs.
The stories of these Allendale children show that it’s never
too late—the involvement of the right person at the right
time can change the course of a life for the better. Names have
been altered to protect the children’s identities.
